One
of the crown jewels of Georgia's famed Golden Isles, Little
St. Simons Island offers privacy, seven miles of pristine
beaches and 10,000 acres of undeveloped wilderness for exploration
and relaxation. Owned by the same family since 1908, Little
St. Simons Island has retained the charm and unhurried pace
of coastal living. Moss-draped live oaks and glistening
marshes surround comfortable accommodations for just 30
overnight guests.
Island activities take full advantage of the natural surroundings
and encourage outdoor recreation. Awaiting discovery and
exploration are acres of moss-draped maritime forests and
miles of creeks, estuaries and beaches untouched by man.
The beauty of the landscape is punctuated by the opportunity
to observe the area's wildlife in its natural habitat. Natural
history tours of the Island, led by a trained naturalist,
are a favorite among guests. Narratives of the Island's
history and ecosystems
are interspersed with sightings of American alligator, fallow
deer, armadillos and an array of birds. Sightings of colorful
painted buntings and piping plovers on their migratory journeys
are just one reason Little St. Simons Island is recognized
as one of the best birding locations on the eastern seaboard.
Hiking, bicycling and horseback riding are also popular
ways to explore the Island.
Water sports, including swimming, fly fishing, kayaking,
canoeing, and motor boating invite guests to enjoy the Island's
secluded beaches and waterways. Canoeing through the waterways,
guests may be joined on their tranquil journey by bottlenose
dolphin swimming alongside the boat. Saltwater fly fishing
excursions to secluded inlets offer an opportunity to commune
with nature as well as a chance to catch redfish, trout
and flounder. Seven miles of pristine beaches are ideal
for swimming, shelling and sunbathing.
